New boy Dexter Blackstock pleased with Leeds

DEXTER BLACKSTOCK admits firing Leeds to promotion was the last thought on his mind in the summer.

After penning a four-year contract at Nottingham Forest, he expected to be celebrating goals galore at the City Ground.

But having been frozen out by Forest boss Billy Davies, the striker joined Leeds on a three-month loan this week.

And Blackstock, 27, said: “I saw my future there, but nothing surprises me in football. I was getting the odd game this season, but that’s not me. I was missing playing and wanted to come out and get playing – and what a place to come and do that.”

Blackstock concedes he has no idea what the future holds for him.

“I’m here at Leeds for three months and we’ll wait and see what happens beyond that,” he said.

“I feel a freshness about being at a new place, and I’m excited and looking forward to the next three months.”

He is now concentrating on pushing Brian McDermott’s men into the promotion frame, starting at neighbours Huddersfield today.

He said: “There’s a good squad here and the lads are pulling in the right direction.

“You don’t get Leeds United starting a season and not looking to be in the play-offs at the very least.”
